How K’s Outfitter Got Its Start…
I’ve always had a passion for fishing. As a young boy growing up in Pennsylvania, I spent countless hours on the water, casting lines and learning patience, focus, and appreciation for the outdoors. After high school, I joined the Marine Corps and traveled the world. No matter where I was—whether in peaceful waters or war zones—I always found time to fish. It became my way to reconnect, to breathe, to find peace in the middle of chaos.
Like many veterans, transitioning to civilian life wasn’t easy. I faced physical and mental health struggles, including PTSD. I tried a lot of ways to heal—some destructive, some that just didn’t work. Then one day, I stumbled on a YouTube video about fly fishing, and something clicked. That spark I’d carried since childhood reignited. Fly fishing gave me a way back to myself. It taught me mindfulness, patience, and presence—without judgment, just the rhythm of the river and the cast.
Now, I fish not just for the thrill of the catch, but for the peace it brings. I share my story to remind others—especially fellow veterans—that healing doesn’t always come from a clinic or a prescription. Sometimes it comes from wading into a river, feeling the current, and learning to cast again.
